Have you ever been in the situation, in which you had to edit a few similar photos in the same way? I think we all have been there… That is why, Lightroom provides the option, with which you can streamline such a process and save TONS of time. This is called using a “Preset”.
But was is a preset? A preset combines different configuration of settings in Lightroom, which are used to achieve a certain look and feel of the photo. It helps you create a desired style with just one click. In other applications, this is referred to as a “filter”.
If you have already read “How I edit my photos for my blog and instagram?” then you would know that I typically do not use a preset that often. However, this does not mean that this is not the right approach for your editing style. If the strategy of your portfolio is to generate content, which is based on the same color or light palette, then this is just for you.
Create and save your own preset
Lightroom presets on your laptop
Step 1 – Open Lightroom and chose which photos you want to edit. Then add them to your desired library.
Step 2 – Click on “Edit” and edit your photo as you wish.
Step 3 – Once you are ready with the editing, click on “Preset” at the right bottom corner of the program. The Preset panel should open left from the edit panel.
Step 4 – Click on the “…” in the upper right corner of the Preset panel and select “Create Preset”.
Step 5 – Type in how you want to name your preset. By default it will be saved under “User Presets”. If you want to save it in a specific customized group, you also have the option to create one. For this you have to go to “Group” and click on “New Group”.
When creating a new group, a new window will pop out for you to chose the Name of your Preset Group. Click on “Create” and afterwards on “Save”.
Once you saved your preset, you can see it under your “New Preset Group”.
Then you can move on to the next photo and apply your preset to it. And there you go – just with one click, you have the same edit settings.
